Dreams and reality in words and imagery; during this period the artists creative voice layered the words and imagery of dreams with stark reality of days. Each morning dreams and nightmares guided the artist in her artwork and poetry as she developed her own symbolism. Dreams were playing a dominant role in the artists work as she recovered from several miscarriages that had threatened there life.

Each image page began with writings created using pen and masking fluid to protect the watercolor paper as each other layer was created, at the end the masking fluid was removed to reveal the naked paper the work was created upon.

On the left side of the book the simple narration of a car crash in London and what ensued, and on the right side of the book layer upon layer of handwritten poetry and nighttime dreams. Tony Godrey wrote of this piece ” This is an extraordinary piece of work. It is one of the best attempts to provide an equivalent to different levels of experience – verbal and visual, confessional, anecdotal and speculative – I have read.”

BLOW AWAY DREAMS

Two pages coming together as one. The writings and imagery of Blow Away Dreams were created by etching zinc plates in acid, the brutality of acid penetrating and exposing lines is in complete contrast to the fragile transparent silk tissue paper the final print made. The silk tissue paper is gentle and almost fabric-like and fine enough a slight breeze will blow it away, the use of that particular paper was intentional, a comment on how fragile remembrance of dreams can be. Two prints, one with words the other an image, when the translucent etchings layer upon each other both unite to become their own unique singular image. 16 individual works combine to form 24 pages of a book created to be touched.
