Spring Clean

Spring-clean.
I'm clearing up my room,
Sweeping the floor.
Tiding it up.
Opening the curtains,
Also the ones behind,
and behind those,
and behind,
and behind.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Denise Evans is a British fine artist from London, she studied at the Byam Shaw School of Fine Art and achieved her PhD at the Slade School of Fine Art (University College London - UCL) graduating in 1989. She has shown at the Museum of Modern Art and achieved multiple awards and prizes for her exceptional work.

Determined to financially support her own artwork and not be influenced, after temporary office work she was taken under the wing of the London International Financially Futures and Options Exchange and became their first Technical Analyst in the newly began Technical department in charge of Technical charts in the Exchanges monthly publications.

After several years of domestic abuse from an alcoholic husband and experiencing yet another miscarriage this one in the throws of an alcoholic attack - in 1996 she purchased the cheapest ticket and travelled alone to explore and be influenced by landscapes of America. She fell in love with America’s abundant nature, then alone came back on another airplane ticket in 1996, she purchased a battered 1983 Jeep from a Discovery documentary film maker, then explored alone the deserts of the West of the US and was profoundly inspired.

She moved to the Midwest of the USA in 1997 to extend her artistic horizons. By the end of 1999 she became disabled with two major neurological illness a debilitating form of Semi-Progressive Multiple-Sclerosis and untreatable Left and Right Temporal Lobe seizures: Neurological illnesses that changed her life for the next two decades.

She didn’t begin to see better horizons until she began treatment under the Kansas University Medical Center in 2016. Her painting ‘I Woke Up And Found Myself Here’ expressed the moment when she became free from daily continual Grand Mal seizures. 2022 she is awaiting her first brain surgery (one of two) on her right temporal lobe to calm the continual seizures charging from just that area of the brain. Since 2017 in bouts she has been in her studio bringing with her her preliminary drawings and ideas.
