IN HER OWN WORDS
WORDS ARTISTIC
For more than 30 years the artists writings have sat behind her work as her imagery spilled over from paint into text. Her words have united a greater meaning that depth cannot be divorced from the visual work itself. It’s often been said of the artist writings she “Paints with words.” The art critic – Tony Godfrey wrote of her piece Dreams of Reality – Reality of Dreams: “This is an extraordinary piece of work. It is one of the best attempts to provide an equivalent to different levels of experience – verbal and visual, confessional, anecdotal and speculative – I have read.”
IN MY OWN WORDS
“Words have long been part of my work and at times in my life during the making of my visual artworks my creation has spilled much faster than a painted canvas could capture, and words came to soak up my visual speed in that time. Other times life has kept me from my visual work and in those times words came to quench my thirst to visualize no matter what. I look back today and I understand I’ve never been able to separate the two. At points in my life my words and imagery became one, as in my handmade books which were centerpieces too much broader work as in my installation works of Preservation, Family Album and Dreams of Reality, Reality of Dreams.”

HANDMADE BOOKS
WORDS WITHIN COVERS
Throughout her career her work has fallen over into the written form in poetry and in handmade books. Often a bookwork is at the heart of an artwork like PRESERVATION COPPER BOOK the center piece to her photographic installation PRESERVATION. In her books she brings together unique materials to tell their own tale alongside her own imagery, rust telling tales of vessels decayed way past their useful life and in her book BLOW AWAY DREAMS transparent tissue paper made of silk thread bears the compression of the printing press to be etched upon. Her books are unique works of art and her writing carries her unique voice of empathy.
